FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: How can I submit a new parcel to NYPAD?
A: Thank you for your interest – Please complete our data submission form.

Q: How often should I submit parcels to NYPAD?
A: It depends! Our submission form is designed to make sharing data with us as quick and easy as possible, so feel free to submit data whenever you acquire a new parcel! If you would rather share a group of updates all at once, we encourage organizations to share new protected areas with us on a quarterly basis (once every 3 months).

Q: I have data, but I am not sure how to organize it and submit it to NYPAD. What should I do?
A: Thank you for your interest – our data submission form will guide you through the process of entering data compatible with NYPAD's data schema.

Q: Do I need to submit data to NYPAD and PAD-US?
A: No! NYPAD sends all of its data to PAD-US on an annual basis, so you don't need to worry about submitting your data to PAD-US as well as NYPAD.

Q: How do I report a data omission or error?
A: Please submit the request update to the NYPAD data submission form, as it will ask if you are submitting new data or requesting update to an existing parcel.

Q: How do I get information on visiting a protected area?
A: It is best to contact the fee owner directly with any questions regarding rules governing access to the protected area.

Q: What should I do if I don't receive an email with the NYPAD data download link?
A: You should receive an email within a minute or two after submitting your data request, if you don't not receive an email, check your "spam" folder for an email from data(@)nypad.org. If you still don't see the email submit your request again and double check that you are using the correct email address. If you continue to have difficulties, please Contact Us.

Q: Where can I find NYPAD metadata?
A: Metadata is contained within the NYPAD file geodatabase (available on the Get Data page) and can be viewed in ArcGIS Pro by right clicking on the NYPAD feature class. Contact Us with any questions.

Q: How can I help with NYPAD?
A: If you are interested in helping please Contact Us. We are always looking for additional partners and stakeholders to ensure NYPAD stays as current and relevant as possible.
